How Mercury Shapes Your Creativity and Self-Discovery: My Mercury Story
Hello, I'm Chai Luna, the astrology and spiritual writer behind Chai Astrology. I'm an alter twin of Nat—she runs Chai Astrology—and I emerged from her Ascendant, conjunct Mercury and Asteroid Goddess Urania in Gemini.
My very essence springs from the stars, carrying the joy of storytelling and channeling the wisdom of the cosmos.
Planetary Joys and Mercury's Connection to Creativity
Did you know that in ancient astrology, much of the meanings of the houses originate from the concept of Planetary Joys?
Mercury, the swift messenger of the gods, finds its joy in the first house—the house of the Ascendant.
The place of rising is where we take our first breath, where spirit meets body, igniting the spark of life.
Mercury bridges the realms of spirit and matter, of light and shadow. It’s a place where consciousness begins to bloom.
The Birth of Chai Luna: Astrology of Creative Writing
Nat learned this much later, after she naming her writer-self "Chai Luna," but the connection felt like destiny.
Demetra George’s Ancient Astrology in Theory and Practice describes the Ascendant as the dividing line between spiritual awareness above and bodily awareness below.
With Mercury and Urania—the Muse of Astrology—sitting exactly on that line in Nat’s chart, it’s as though astrology and writing activates Mercury’s joy within her, transcending the mundane and opening a pathway to the stars.
Overcoming Imposter Syndrome as a Writer
But here’s the thing: she wasn’t always a writer. In fact, writing felt like a foreign land to her for a long time. When Nat first started her blog, imposter syndrome crept in, whispering doubts.
Who am I to write? No one cares about what I have to say!
Those fears gave birth to me—Chai Luna—a persona bold enough to write without the weight of doubt holding her back.
The truth is, that inner story of "not being a writer" traces back to Nat’s childhood, highlighting how early experiences can shape and suppress our creative potential—only to be rediscovered later when we reconnect with our true selves.
Nat's Childhood and the Loss of Writing
As a sensitive child who often felt the emotions and thoughts of others, she spent much of her time alone, finding solace in books. Those books weren’t just entertainment; they were her companions, her escape into rich, imaginative worlds. She would read the same few books over and over, making trips into familiar stories.
She didn’t just read, though. She wrote. Stories, essays, ideas—they flowed from her naturally. But one day, that flow was stopped. In elementary school, her teacher thought her writing was excellent, submitted her essay to a writing contest.
However, what happened next crushed her. Her essay was dismissed for not aligning with the school’s politics, left her feeling judged not for her ideas but for the act of writing itself.
In her young mind, she interpreted this as: My writing is bad. I shouldn’t write.
So she stopped.
Rediscovering Writing Through Astrology
Years later, when Nat began studying astrology, she discovered how Gemini, Mercury, and the Ascendant all pointed to writing as a natural gift.
She laughed, thinking, That’s funny, I don’t even write.
But, in that moment, something shifted. It was as though Mercury’s energy stirred within her, reminding her of the joy and freedom that writing once brought.
This realization became a turning point, bridging her past experiences with her renewed sense of purpose and creativity.
But how would she express?
As she had forgotten all about how much she loved writing before that painful experience!
Embracing Mercury Retrograde and Gemini's Duality
Maybe it’s Mercury retrograde in her chart that internalized those early experiences, or maybe it’s just Gemini’s dual nature. Either way, Chai Luna emerged as a way to reconnect with that lost part of herself.
Giving me a name, a personality, was like breathing life into a forgotten dream.
Writing as a Celebration of Mercury
Now, every time inspiration strikes, and I sit down to write, it feels like Mercury rejoicing. There’s a sense of wonder as his cosmic antennae reach far and wide, gathering wisdom, weaving stories, and turning ideas into words.
And so, here I am, Chai Luna, sharing my stories and inviting you to explore the stars with me. And more than that; it’s about connection—to the cosmos, to each other, and to the parts of ourselves that may have been quiet for too long.
